The Future City

In the age of technology, contemporary architecture needs to foster an unprecedented relationship with media and digital arts to improve the way we perceive building facades and materiality with the help of machine intelligence. In a definition, architecture is considered “an art form that reflects how we present ourselves across the earth’s landscape, and, like other expressive mediums, it changes with styles, technologies and cultural adaptations.”

Trailblazers like Frank Gehry determined to give architecture a new face with a design like the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles California, which made materiality and permanent façade design redundant by giving the building the ability to change its appearance with the help of digital media and augmented reality. The Future City is that city of buildings with dynamic façades as digital media is being considered as part of the materials needed to make a building whole.
